Where the Antelope Play | Antelope Canyon Arizona

Monday, October 9, 2017

Flew to Arizona to spend some time with my boyfriend (& figure out what my birthday surprise is!). We started off my Arizona trip by taking a road trip to Antelope Canyon north of Phoenix. It was absolutely incredible and worth the (very long) road trip!

(He always picks me up from the airport with flowers! I did not train him to do this but obviously have never complained...)

The drive to the canyon is quite long- thankfully I had some great company and a WSJ to keep me occupied, but it is not an interesting drive, and there aren't very many places to stop along the way. Regardless of the direction you're coming from to the Canyon, be prepared! There are very few gas stations, restaurants, and ATMs nearby. Once you finally make it to the canyon, access to the canyon is located on a Navajo Reservation and tours are run by the Navajo nation. Tours run upwards of $45/person and only cash is accepted. (They aren't very nice about it, either- you have to run back to town and access the 1 ATM for miles to get cash if you don't come prepared.)

Tour buses come with foreign tourists by the dozens, so try to get a reservation early. You may have to get a reservation, then wait around for a couple hours until your tour, which was the case for us. Our tour was essentially a jeep ride back to the canyon, then a really informative guide that took us through the canyon. It was extremely crowded with hundreds of people taking photos of the rocks- apparently the best time to go is in the morning! ( Also when you get the best light coming through the top for photos, if that's your thing.)

And on to our next destination....

Dumping the Drop Ceiling

As much as I love my house, there is one major feature that I don't love- the drop ceiling!  Unfortunately it's a prominent feature ...
