Sneaking off to Seattle

Friday, January 26, 2018

It took about month for cabin fever to start setting in Michigan. I decided I needed OUT of the snow and was yearning to hop on a plane! Thankfully, my man had needed to go to Seattle for work, so I decided to tag along for a weekend of sightseeing and seafood! The oysters alone made the long flight worth it! (By way of Las Vegas- who knew they put the slot machines in the airport?)

I introduced him to oysters in Minneapolis many months ago and now every chance he gets, he orders them. I don't a lot of convincing to eat some with him!

After exploring the Pike Market down by the waterfront and riding the Ferris Wheel to get a view of the place, we retired to our hotel and made sure to sleep in really late the next morning (hey, we were coming from a different time zone!).
Amazing view from the Ferris Wheel!

The next morning we woke up with grand plans to visit the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden & Glass exhibit, but our leisurely pace had us starting really late in the day and eventually we had to pick one attraction. Since I'd visited the Space Needle previously, Chihuly was it.

This is going to make me sounds like a total moron, but I heard the word "garden" and assumed we were going to a conservatory to look at actual flowers and plants, but this was not the case. Upon hopping out of our taxi and walking into the place (which, fun fact, is right next to the Space Needle) I was overwhelmed with GIANT glass sculptures of flowers and other strange things.

I'm sure there are some great flower gardens in Seattle, but the Chihuly Gardens is not one of them, because it's actually an art installation!

The whole experience really reminded me of Alice in Wonderland in blown glass- like crazy shapes and colors, nature and home scenes playing with scale in interesting ways. It was completely worth the admission price. To continue our art weekend, we went to the Seattle Art Museum before heading home!

Dumping the Drop Ceiling

As much as I love my house, there is one major feature that I don't love- the drop ceiling!  Unfortunately it's a prominent feature ...
