Breakfast on the Beach

After sleeping in gloriously late, the girls and I got up and ate at this amazing beach shack across the street from our hotel. It was the exactly what I thought Thailand would be like when we came here! It was a place with tiny bamboo booths right in the surf, elevated right off the sand. We could watch the boats and clear blue waves drift in and out all morning.

However, I'm starting to see a pattern emerge: WE CAN'T FIND ANY FOOD! There are barely any restaurants around our hotel and this beach shack did not serve any breakfast food, so I ordered a fried egg off the menu and asked for it to be scrambled (as you can see it didn't show up scrambled). My travel companions ordered Thai food off the menu and something completely different showed up. When we tried to correct our waiter, even more incorrect food showed up. Finally we just settled in and ate what we had. We are going to have to explore more for breakfast from now on.

Obviously none of us speak Thai, so when we ask for a restaurant recommendation, need to negotiate a taxi rate, or need to buy bottled water, we are reduced to gesturing wildly or just holding up money. We should have foreseen the frustration factor would be high in this situation, but it does add to the adventure! (And our signing skills!)
