After a quick shower and nap at our hotel, we were ready to explore the town! In front of our hotel, we flagged down a taxi and asked them to take us somewhere where we could find great food and cocktails, and they immediately dropped us off at a mall bustling with western restaurants. I think he sensed we didn't have very diverse palates. (The girls did have Thai food, but I put away almost an entire pizza and a Mai Tai. Oops.)
Afterward we wandered around the night markets and found party central on Bangla Road! If you want to find a crazy time, tell your taxi driver to take you here. It was filled with people from everywhere and anywhere- Australia, South Africa, and various surrounding countries (meaning it's ok if you don't speak Thai).
Bangla Road is essentially a strip of bars and nightclubs where you can get into literally any vice imaginable. We decided to play it safe and ducked into a relatively tame (for Thailand) bar and ordered up some drinks.
The bar was pleasantly open air to the night so we could still observe the chaos of the night, yet closed off enough so we had fans above our tables to cool down the bar (even at night it's still pretty hot here). Our waitresses (dressed in short, midriff-baring blue and white flight attendant uniforms) chatted us up and even gave us some drinks on the house. Other tables had hostesses dancing on the tables! (Like I said, any vice imaginable here)
Afterward we hit up a club down the street and did some night market shopping at the stalls. Thank god the jet lag was on our side this time. I just waiting for the crash....
