Even though I'm a Michigan alum, I really appreciate the uniqueness that comes with a visit to Michigan State in East Lansing!
Unlike UM, Michigan State is a land grant university created by the Morrill Land Act. These acts endowed schools to be focused on teaching "practical" skills like agriculture, science, and engineering. At the time, other schools (like UM) focused on teaching classical studies. Because MSU started with a focus on the practical, it's surrounded by acres of pastures and barns dedicated to plant and animal research. It makes for an interesting drive in!
Over the weekend my sister in law graduated from MSU and became a veterinarian, so my family is done with graduations for awhile...unless anyone decides to get a PhD. After the ceremony we headed over to the dairy barn to say goodbye to the girls that kept her busy throughout her school years!
